About Us
We’re Paloma and Michael and we’re glad you stopped by Nightly Bats.
(We’ll get to that name in a second.)
In the simplest terms, Paloma designs and Michael animates. We genuinely enjoy collaborating with our clients to solve design-driven problems. We know that takes more than adding a little “flair” so we apply strategy and purpose — along with a right-sized touch of weirdness — to translate key brand messages into compelling visual stories. Between the two of us, we’ve had opportunities to design and animate for restaurants and small businesses throughout the Southeast. We live, work, and always represent for ATL.

Paloma Schultz
Creative Director
As a designer, my greatest strength is probably my ability to forge relationships with clients. It’s important to me that I understand their needs so I can create solutions that not only look good, but actually fix the problem. Knowing my clients well means we can have frank conversations and it makes me more invested in their actual business. I know, I know: designers love to say they’re “mind readers.” I substitute actual human relationships for mind reading. It works really well.
I’ve been designing professionally for eight years, but I’ve been designing in some capacity since I was a kid. I’ve worked in family-owned restaurants since I was 16 so I’ve seen firsthand how design and marketing can affect the success of a restaurant. Although I design for a variety of industries, restaurant branding — and particularly extrapolating existing brands into digital/print marketing materials — is something I’m really, really good at.
When I’m not thinking about how I can solve complex problems with design, I can be found camping and hiking throughout the southeast, baking ridiculous desserts or sleeping, my favorite form of self-care.

Michael Straub
Chief Motion Graphics Artist
I bring graphic features to life using animation. Motion graphics tell brand stories, explain tricky concepts and present complex information with vivid and engaging visual effects. I create 2D and 3D animation, make logos move, and recreate UI experiences.
After 13 years of design experience, I anticipate my clients’ needs before they do. Designing promotion and marketing assets for a variety of food and restaurant clients, I’ve developed strong time management skills and an ability to adapt to different projects and environments. I’ve spent my days in a hundred different settings so I’m able to quickly adjust to whatever project comes my way. I make it a priority to stay at the forefront of an ever-evolving industry so I can create effective and inspiring designs.
Away from my desk, I’m most likely rock climbing, playing with our two Boston terriers, staring at the grass in my new yard and working on mixing the perfect boulevardier.

Now about that name…
On our first visit to Austin, TX we noticed one of the city’s must-see tourist activities was listed as “nightly bats.” Every evening bats fly out from under Congress Bridge and it’s pretty spectacular.
“Nightly bats” later became our shorthand way to refer to that period of time right before you go to bed, when even though you’re exhausted, you get a burst of creative energy that makes you a little wild. We named the business for that simple term that refers to something exceptional.
